Destinations - Blackwater River State Forest

Blackwater River State Forest, with more than 190,000 acres of woodlands, lakes and waterways, is the largest state forest in the entire state of Florida. It is a dream come true for hikers, campers, kayakers, mountain bikers, horseback riders and nature lovers.

Also known as the "Canoe Capital of Florida," Blackwater River State Forest offers paddlers guaranteed adventure on board a canoe, kayak or inner tube.

The state forest is crossed by three first-rate rivers, the Blackwater River, Sweetwater-Juniper Creek and the Coldwater Creek, which is arguably the finest canoe river in the region. Northwest Florida’s rivers do not feature the wild ride found at whitewater canoeing destinations. Our rivers offer peace and quiet, natural beauty and plenty of fun for all ages and all levels of water skill.

The rivers in the Blackwater River State Forest are among the purest sand-bottom rivers in the world. Their tea-colored waters contrast with beautiful white sand bars that offer the perfect setting for soaking up the sun.
